Fire grits part of Port Harcourt refinery on 1st January 2022

There was disruption in the activities at the Port Harcourt refinery company in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State due to fire incident.

However, the fire incident which happened in the morning of Saturday 1st, could not be ascertained, according to sources, the fire has been put off, saying it lasted for less than an hour.

The source confirmed saying “Yes, it is true that there was a fire outbreak this morning. An operation was going on when it happened.

“There was a minor damage because it was immediately contained. So no loss of lives or property” source said.

Meanwhile, the source preferred to be anonymous.

The refinery which is currently undergoing repairs gulping $2.5 billion is the first and largest refinery in the country built in 1965.

The refinery, presently is not producing, like the others, even as the ongoing repairs is expected to be completed in March 2023.
