Charles Nii Amah Mensah Jr popularly known as Shatta Wale, is a Ghanaian multi-talented Raggae Dancehall musical artist.

Shatta Wale was born in Accra Ghana on 17th October, 1984 at the police hospital by Elsie to Charles Nii Amah Mensah Sr, a politician, businessman and legal practitioner. He grew up with his family in Latebickorshie, Dansoman and then later Korle Gonna during his formative years of growing up.
Career And Music Passion
Charles Nii Amah Jr attended Seven Great Princes Academy at Dansoman, a suburb in Accra. And started his passion for the arts in his early years in school, where he acted in popular Akan drama series, By the Fireside, at the National Theatre of Ghana.
He was exposed to Raggae music by his father, who represented a major catalyst to his love for the genre by exposing him to the culture of Jamaica, as well as holiday trips to relatives from Jamaica who lived in UK.
Shatta’s love and passion for music caused a rift affecting his relationship with his father causing him to live in almost all the ghettos in Accra just to survive.
He learned to play the keyboard and received routine vocal training at his schools music class department, then known as Doggy while attending Winneba Secondary School. He also travelled to Jamaica to master his music craft.
He gained so much favour and credibility with his single “MOKO HOO” which he featured Tinny in 2004, then his stage name was bandana. The song was also nominated in the Ghana music awards in 2004.
Shatta went underground on music for almost a decade, and re-surfaced rebranding his stage name from Bandana to Shatta Wale, and continued his career focusing on dancehall in Jamaican style of production in Nima, a small community in Accra, a place ghetto that harbors a lot of youths and Muslims.
His biggest hits after his comeback were; “Havana, Shatta city, Enter the net, Everybody likes my tin, and Dance Hall King. The most viral was Danc Ehall King, which earned him an award in 2015. Then he also released “Wine Ya Waist” featuring Davido which was among the five most listened songs around the world according to Guardian.
Wale’s song’s mahama paper and kakai became political weapons in the 2016 Ghana elections which he however refused to endorse to any political party.
Shatta Wale became a brand ambassador for Guinness Ghana in 2014. Brand ambassador for Rush energy drink in 2017,kasapreko company in Ghana unveiled Shatta as their newest brand ambassador for Storm Energy Drink. Sighed a deal with Boss Boker Beef Roll in2017 as a brand ambassador, Infinix Ghana on September 2019.
